How would you describe what you do at HealthSparq? In the simplest terms, I try to solve problems through design. The UX team sits at the cross section of client, user and business needs pushing to continually improve, refine, test and innovate our products.
What’s your favorite part about working here? It’s a toss up between the people and the mission of the company. This is one of the most kind and respectful places I have ever worked. Everyone approaches their work with such empathy and compassion. I also care deeply about equitable access to health care and value that our products assist people in making important health care decisions.
What’s your favorite Portland donut? Does free count? I’ll never pass up a free donut, but Annie’s Donuts on Sandy is the best.
What do you think is next for health care? I think health care is going to truly transform into a service industry. As more people have access to health care, I believe competition is going to arise through transparency, service and ease of use.

How would you describe what you do at HealthSparq? I ensure client satisfaction and retention through managing relationships, enhancement requests and making sure issues are resolved as quickly as possible.
What’s your favorite part about working here? In a word? People. Our down-to-earth, fun-loving people who work hard and look for any reason to celebrate (read: Happy Hour!).
What’s your favorite Portland donut? Coco’s buttermilk donut.
What do you think is next for health care? Continued development of on-demand services such as telehealth and integration of patient health records to further personalize and optimize patient care.

Megan Lien
Title: Data Insights Analyst
When you joined HealthSparq: September 2014
Based in: Portland, OR
Hometown: Seattle, WA
How would you describe what you do at HealthSparq? I work with our clients to take in their claims data and create Treatment and Encounter cost estimates. I’m the one taking this giant, messy data set, doing a bunch of complicated math on it, and creating these lovely, informative treatment timelines so patients can understand typical care patterns for their conditions.
What’s your favorite part about working here? I enjoy our Data Insights Friday team building exercises which have included ping pong, shuffleboard and bocce ball. We’re lucky that all are available to play in our office.
What’s your favorite Portland donut? Mango Tango from Voodoo (mango filled raised doughnut topped with Tang).
What do you think is next for health care? Hopefully more patient empowerment. There’s so much information available now which should really enable patients to feel more in control of their care rather than feeling lost.
